Design: Kitchen

They say the second greatest value to add to a house, after the kitchen remodel, is a bath remodel. Well, if you're thinking of doing so, here are a couplpe of hot trends to keep an eye out for. Whether you’ve finally had it with those pink subway tiles (the ones you pledged to rip out when you moved in), or are finally ready to bid adieu to that horribly leaky faucet (you know the one), there’s endless design inspiration to kick-start your bathroom remodel.

Ariel Okin of Ariel Okin Interiors says, “Deep soaking bathtubs never go out of style, and clients lately have been asking for Art Deco-inspired bathroom vibes.” If the bathroom is large enough, or even if its not, these large tubs are returning the pampering we so desparately need in these hectic times.

Although there was a quick resurgence on the claw foot tub, the new year is ushering in the official love of all things elegant and clean, and the white Japanese soaking tub is now king. Thanks to these tubs dropping dramatically in price as Acrylic and Quartz templating make a huge tub cost effective for contemporary homes.

Ink jet printing onto porcelain tile (who's the genius who thought that up?) is ushering the latest craze: wild tile patterns. But even more so, Marble is making a big comeback. “Rich, bold, and unusual marble is a trend we are loving. People are staying away from the usual Carrera and Calcutta Gold and are taking risks on unique materials such as Zebrino, Arabascato and Paonazzo, which are like art installations when done right!” per Janice Barta of Barta Interiors.

Marble is so sublte and elegant, and although it's cost adverse to flooring an entire home, the confine space of a shower stall or the open wall of a bathroom can keep the project cost to somewhat reasonable amounts.

Subway tiles are so yesterday, and are being replaced by fun shapes for the room. “The rectangle subway tile is getting pushed out of the way for funkier shapes like hexagons and scallops. Opting for a shaped tile pattern is a great way to make an impact if you aren’t willing to commit to a big color.” according to Christine Markatos Lowe of Christine Markatos Design.

Soft pastels are being matched with funky little designs to give the room an almost child-like feel. But stronger colors make a bold and dramatic impact on the bathroom. The choice is yours, so take a deeper look for your next project, you may find some new products out there that fits your style.
